Defeat Cancer is an awareness and support initiative launched under the umbrella of the Pakistan Institute of Living and Learning (PILL). Our mission is to challenge stigma, promote early detection, and support recovery for individuals affected by cancer—especially breast cancer—across Pakistan.
The initiative grew out of the Moving On ABC Trial, a psychosocial research program aimed at improving the mental and emotional well-being of breast cancer survivors through therapy, follow-up care, and community engagement. The trial not only informed our understanding of survivors’ needs but also highlighted the urgency of nationwide awareness, accessible information, and psychosocial support.
PILL, our parent organization, is a not-for-profit research and mental health service provider that focuses on culturally relevant, evidence-based interventions in Pakistan and the region. With a vision to bridge gaps in healthcare and empower communities, PILL supports research, training, and direct services in mental health, women’s health, and chronic disease management.
Through the Defeat Cancer initiative, we are creating a national platform to share survivor stories, promote screening and early detection, reduce fear and stigma, and provide evidence-based resources for patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals. Together, we aim to build a more informed, supportive, and resilient society—one where cancer is not a solitary battle.
